Simple, Hidden Design

Blue Ox Base Plate With Arms AttachedBlue Ox Base Plate Arms Removed

This base plate's hidden design creates a clean and seamless look. The bracket arms are easily removable, creating a slick appearance when you're not flat towing. Because the arms can be removed, you also won't have to worry about banging your leg into any protruding arms when you walk by.

Blue Ox Base Plate Removable Arms

Attaching and removing the bracket arms is a breeze. To attach the arms to the base plate, simply insert them into the receivers and rotate them until they lock into place. Once you're finished towing and want to remove the arms, pull the pin to disengage the lock, rotate the arms, and remove them from the receivers. Finally, plug up the now empty receivers with the included receiver covers to help keep dirt and debris out of the base plate and provide a finished look.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

  • Recommended Blue Ox Baseplate For A 2011 GMC Sierra 1500
Hey Larry, The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1694 is not a fit for 1500 models but the # BX1674 would be a fit. I've attached a short video below where we'll walk you through the installation process.

  • Recommended Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2012 GMC Sierra Behind a Semi
You will need an entire flat tow setup on your 2012 GMC Sierra in order to do this the right way. Here are the parts I recommend using for this: - Blue Ox Allure Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7460P (comes with safety cables) - Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1674 for 1500 or # BX1694 for 2500/3500 - Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit # HM56101 - Flexo-Coil Kit # RM-146-7 - Pollak Heavy-Duty, 7-Pole, Round Pin Connector # PK11700 - Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System...

  • Are Adapters Needed To Connect An etrailer Classic Baseplate To A Blue Ox Avail Tow Bar
You would need an adapter to connect a Blue Ox Avail Tow Bar # BX7420 to the etrailer Classic Base Plate Kit - Fixed Arms # e98959, however there isn't a compatible adapter available at this time so you would need to switch to a different baseplate. I recommend just sticking with Blue Ox to avoid having to use any adapters at all. For a 1500 you'll want part # BX1674 and for a 2500 or 3500 you'll need part # BX1681. I've attached some installation videos below to help walk you through...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 Long Bed with Cap Behind Motor Home
For your 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 you can use Blue Ox base plates # BX1674. I have linked a video showing installation for you. For a compatible tow bar that has a high enough capacity for the truck the Alpha # BX7380 is rated for 6,500 pounds and comes with safety cables. For lighting you have some options. For a quick, easy, and inexpensive option you can use a magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. For a more permanent solution I recommend the 4 diode kit # RM-154. And finally, most states...

  • Difference Between Blue Ox Base Plates # BX1710 and # BX1674
The two Blue Ox base plate sets you referenced, # BX1710 and # BX1674, both feature removable arms and both fit a range of Blue Ox tow bars, but these two base plates fit different vehicles. Kit # BX1710 is for the 2014 model year Silverado 1500 and works with Blue Ox's Aventa, Aladdin, Alpha, and Allure tow bars. Kit # BX1674 fits various earlier model years and versions of GMC/Chevrolet 1500 trucks and works with Blue Ox's Acclaim, Adventurer, Aventa, Aladdin, Alpha, Allure and Titan...

  • Recommended Parts for Flat Towing 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 Behind Motorhome
To flat tow your vehicle, you'll need a tow bar, base plates, safety cables, a wiring solution so that the truck taillights work in conjunction with those of the tow vehicle, a supplemental braking system and possibly a high/low adapter. For Blue Ox parts starting with the tow bar, I'd go with the Blue Ox Avail, part # BX7420. This tow bar has a 10K capacity like you were looking for, and features non-binding self aligning arms that make hooking up and detaching very easy. The safety cables...

  • Will 2008 Chevy Silverado Blue Ox Base Plate Kit Replace Front Tow Hooks
Great question, Jimmy! The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1674 will replace the front tow hooks on your 2008 Chevy Silverado, yes. The installation is a little more involved than just sliding the plate kit into the frame, but if you're comfortable working on vehicles it's still a pretty straightforward installation especially when compared to other vehicles where the front bumper needs to be completely removed. Attached are the installation instructions and a video for your reference!

The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1674 was designed to fit your 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT and will handle the weight just fine. Since your (discontinued) Blue Ox Aladdin Tow Bar BX4325 is rated for 7,500 lbs and fits directly up to this base plate kit you don't have to worry about those warnings. To complete...
